Ann Wigmore revived the interest in wheat grass in the 60’s by treating herself when her doctors told her she would not live. After an automobile accident that shattered both her legs, Ann was advised to amputate her legs in order to cut out the disease. She refused and gangrene set in. She did not give up and set out on a “peasant’s diet”, which consisted of wheat grass, vegetables, and grains that ultimately restored her health. Ann dedicated her life to administering wheat grass to the sick and created the Hippocrates Health Institute which to this day carries out her work.

Dr. Ann Wigmore learned as child the art of natural healing from her grandmother. Following the war her family left Europe and emigrated to the United States. After years of struggles with colitis, headaches, arthritis, a host of other health challenges, and namely the accident, the young Ann Wigmore returned to her native teachings and began a regimen of live foods using primarily sprouts and wheatgrass juice to rejuvenate initially her pets and then herself. She experienced an incredible rejuvenation on a diet of living foods. Her hair returned from an almost full graying condition to its natural color. Her vitality soared. So began a live-food crusade which led to the founding of the Hippocrates Institute in Boston in 1963 which successfully treated tens of thousands of patients over a period of several decades.

Dr. Ann Wigmore might be more aptly titled a healer, instead of a doctor, because she healed people and will be remembered forever for the legacy she left humankind. Though Ann died tragically and suddenly in a fire in a fire while writing her book at the age of 83, in 1993, her live-food crusade continues on, unabated.

“Through the American eating habits I developed cancer of the colon, arthritis, hernia, migraine headaches, blood poisoning, depression and gray hair by the time I was fifty…. I knew the only thing to do was turn back to nature…. So gradually I developed the Living Foods Lifestyle and returned to nature. It took me about three years to regain my health. Today I have improved the Living Food Lifestyle which means being able to regain health in only several months rather than several years… “

”Because of wheatgrass implants, my brain has improved and stress has been eliminated. I have tremendous brain force now. My writing is improving each year. When the body is healthy, the brain is healthy too because the brain is the same as any other part of the body.”

Ann healed her own body from various illnesses including colon cancer while in her fifties, using Raw Living Foods.

For thirteen years Dr. Ann visited Creative Health every summer blessing us with her natural healing truths. Dr. Ann died at the age of 83 in a fire. A video taken of her three months before her death shows a woman in her eighties moving about like a young woman–limber, energetic, and intellectually sharp. Her doctors were amazed. At the age of 83, she was as fit as a 30 year old. It’s sad that she died for she would have been “living” proof of the power in Nature (wheatgrass and sprouts), of the simple diet of raw foods in its natural state.

Through years of research Dr. Ann Wigmore discovered that all the enzymes, vitamins and minerals that the body needs are found within the foods we eat — IF these foods are prepared in such a way as to maintain or unlock their life-giving nutrients.

Wheat grass is considered to be a complete food, meaning it has life sustaining properties. It is a source of beta-carotene and the B vitamins, plus vitamins C, E, H and K. It also contains close to ninety different minerals and nineteen amino acids. Wheat grass caters to blood purification, liver detoxification, and colon cleansing. It is also an excellent source of superoxide dismutase (SOD), which is a powerful antioxidant and anti-aging enzyme.

A 1978 study by Yoshihide Hagiwara, M.D., suggests that wheat grass has the ability to inactivate mutagenic substances found in agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, and food additives. In other words, wheat grass may combat the damaging effects of chemicals, fertilizers, and food additives that are ever increasing their visibility in our food and drinking water. As it is now, most foods contain one type or another form of food additives. Fertilizers have been showing up around the world in drinking water. One recent study in California, USA even showed evidence of rocket fuel in cows’ milk.

It must also be said that wheat grass is high in chlorophyll, which is the closest to the molecular structure of human blood on the planet as you can get. The body converts chlorophyll into fresh blood, thus leaving the body more rejuvenated. Due to its concentrated form of chlorophyll, wheat grass has also been known to have favorable effects on treating chronic pancreatitis.

In addition, chlorophyll combats bacteria inside the body and supports healing, rebuilds the bloodstream, removes drug deposits from the body, neutralizes toxins in the body, purifies the liver, improves blood sugar problems, and can cure chronic sinusitis with long term use.

Wheat grass has been known to help prevent tooth decay, skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. It is also claimed to reduce hair from graying, improves digestion, reduces high blood pressure as it enhances the capillaries, and can remove heavy metals from the body.

Living food is provided by nature, organically grown in its original, uncooked state. Live foods provide the body with the life-giving, easy-to-digest nourishment needed to strengthen the immune system. Seeds, grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables in their natural, uncooked state are the living food used to rebuild health - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Wheat grass juice is an excellent source of chlorophyll. Wheat grass juice is also high in iron, oxygen, and enzymes and is one of the richest sources of vitamins A, B, and C.

Studies of wheatgrass by Dr. Chiu Nan Lai of the University of Texas System Cancer Center showed it to be a potent inhibitor of several carcinogens. Applying low levels of the extract to mutagens diminished activity in them by up to 99%. Recent medical research has found that cancer goes into remission when the body is alkaline. The raw living foods diet helps to make the body alkaline (easily tested with litmus paper).

More research has examined the healing properties of chlorophyll in general and seems to be related to the fact that the chlorophyll molecule is nearly identical to that of hemoglobin, whose single atom of iron replaces one atom of magnesium.

Distinguished medical specialists have reported hundreds of cases in which chlorophyll has cured deep infections, stimulated healing, removed necrotic debris from open wounds, and accelerated connective tissue and epidermal proliferation.
