Juice Feasting begins March 1!

Awhile back, I did a juice fast and absolutely loved it. I probably didn’t follow all the rules, but I made a couple quarts of pure juice with my Green Star juicer and another quart of juice in my Vitamix. I lost weight, my hair started growing really fast and my nails, too. My skin cleared up… need I go on? It was awesome!

I followed the Master Cleanse “Lemonade Diet”, quite a few months ago, and that is what propelled me to to do the juice regimen. I love green drinks, but then I usually added an apple, strawberries, or some sort of fruit. I just realized from our RawFood.meetup.com/197 message board, that there is now a new Juice Feast starting March 1! And if you just look around the internet at other raw food sites, everyone is doing it! First, it was Terilynn at Daily Raw Cafe, and then, today I see that Heidi at Raw Food Right Now is doing it, too.

Then I found a site which was totally devoted to coaching people who are juice feasting. Goodness!! I never thought of getting someone to help me do a juice fast…. I never realized that there would actually be a site that offers support and encouragement for juice feasting.

Of course, if you are thinking of doing any sort of Juice Fast or Juice Feasting (it seems the difference in terms has to do with whether you are juicing your vegetables or blending them), you will need to have, at the minimum, a powerful blender. I love my Vitamix, which I’ve heard people describe it as a “blender on steroids”. It will pulverize just about anything you put into it (within reason, of course). You might also want a personal blender, so you can blend fresh anywhere (I usually blend my juice in the morning, and carry it in an insulated container, it still tastes great, and it works for me).

I do like plain old juice, so I need my Champion juicer. I love my Green Star juicer, because it does a great job juicing greens and wheatgrass, even if it does have few more parts to clean. I also love my Champion as it makes great pate, and other raw food goodies.

F: Mr. Mosséri, how old are you and for how long have you been practicing natural hygiene?

M: Soon I’ll be 80 years old, and I’ve been interested in natural hygiene for 60 years, so since the age of 20. It was in Egypt where I was living at the time. I started by doing research, but I didn’t find what I was looking for right away. I had to read all the authors I knew in the entire world and in several languages, — because I know several languages — and I finally found Shelton and Thompson, who came across as the most serious to me. At first I embraced naturopathy, but I gave it up because naturopathy is halfway between medicine and natural hygiene. I started publishing books when I was 20-24 years old, and when the politics in Egypt took a turn for the worst I had to immigrate to France where I practiced natural hygiene from the start.

But, natural hygiene as I am practicing it now came in stages — many, many stages. Because one must find the right diet, the right ideas — it’s not easy to find them. And when we do find them, temptations — exterior and interior — are so strong that it’s not easy to put them into practice right away. It takes years and years to be able to practice pure natural hygiene.

F: You have made a difference between naturopathy and natural hygiene. What is the difference?

M: The difference is capital. One thing the two have in common is that both are against medicines. But, as natural hygienists, we believe the cause must be eliminated, and in this way the symptoms disappear, whereas naturopaths want to use natural remedies, such as medicinal plants. We as natural hygienists reject all these natural remedies, even though they are certainly less harmful than medicines.

F: So you’ve established a fundamental difference between medicine and natural hygiene, and then between natural hygiene and other natural therapies. What then is the fundamental difference between medicine and natural hygiene?

M: The fundamental difference is that medicine fights symptoms with poisons, but does not fight the cause. In fact, medicine doesn’t understand the cause at all. Furthermore, medical science states that diet has nothing to do with sickness, which we formally contest.

F: According to you, what is our natural diet?

M: Our natural diet is what resembles most the diet of the apes — that is the gorilla, chimpanzee, and orangutan. So there would be no animal foods, or almost none, no meat, no fish, no oysters, no sea food, and there wouldn’t be grains, because man is not meant to eat grains. Shelton published a table of compared anatomy and physiology that I have included in my book “La Nutrition Hygiéniste”. According to this table, which was proposed by great physiologists of the past century, French, German, like Cuvier, man is a frugivore. He’s not a carnivore nor an omnivore nor a graminivore. Graminivore means “who eats grains.” Grains also include bread, sandwiches, cakes, pasta, etc.

F: So what’s left is fruits, vegetables…

M: What’s left is all the fruits, all the vegetables, and the roots like potatoes, yams, Jerusalem artichokes, etc.

F: And nuts?

M: And nuts. But I don’t agree with Shelton when he suggests 120 to 200 grams (4-7 ounces) of nuts per day. I find this excessive, so I limit to 20 or 30 grams (about 1 ounce or less), and for athletes perhaps up to 40 grams (a little over an ounce).

F: And you have observed a lot of problems with people who eat more nuts?

M: Effectively, nuts (in excess) are indigestible. They cause putrid stools and gas. The majority of people that eat too many nuts have these problems.

F: But there was a time when you completely eliminated them?

M: At first I ate nuts as Shelton recommended, but when I realized how excessive that was, I went in the other direction, with doctor Lovewisdom in Ecuador. And then afterwards I reached a moderate position with nuts in limited quantities. When I say nuts I also mean sesame butter (tahini), etc.

F: A hygienist’s diet also excludes, spices, salt…

M: Oh yes, one must completely exclude spices, and condiments, mustard, pepper, salt, tobacco, alcohol, and wine.

F: So it’s a turn towards the simplest diet possible?

M: Yes, the simplest possible. And on top of that one must check out strong emotions, like grief, anger and worry — all these can cause sickness, even if your diet is perfect.

F: If a person gets sick, what should he do, according to natural hygiene?

M: According to natural hygiene, if a person gets sick, he must find the cause. And once the cause is discovered, he must eliminate the cause. But a sick person alone is not capable of finding this cause. Sometimes he thinks it’s one thing, when in fact it might be another. There are also priorities. There are secondary causes that must be completely ignored, and there are primary causes that must be eliminated first.

F: For example?

M: A primary cause might be fear, or a very bad diet. It could also be overeating, alcohol, or wine with a meal. When we drink wine with a meal, it makes the entire meal ferment, which goes out the next day in the stools in a putrefied state, with gas.

F: And the secondary causes?

M: Well the less important causes. When one eats some rice every ten days, it’s not a big deal. Even if one eats a small piece of meat every fifteen days, it’s not too bad. But I exclude fish because it putrefies very fast. Even if one rarely eats fish, I consider it very toxic. Cheese as well must be eliminated.

F: So all these secondary causes, like eating meat every 15 days, are not things you would recommend, but you say at this frequency it would not cause one to get sick?

M: Yes, it would be best to abstain from all these foods. But I am aware of human nature. It can be tempted. “The flesh is weak,” like we say.

F: And once we have found the causes?

M: They must be sought out and eliminated, and then, if possible, undergo a fasting cure, by skipping a meal, or a day, or several.

Home made Tooth Soap-Powder

We have been using Tooth Soap for several years now, and I absolutely love it. One jar will last the two of us about 4 months, which is really a good deal. I learned of other products that are also considered as ‘alternative’ toothpaste, but instead it is a powder. I bought it, and it was okay, but not as thorough and cleaning as Toothsoap.

Well, I’m kind of a creator of sorts. That’s why I love to create raw food dishes, writing down the ingredients and quantities, because I create on the fly. The same is true with what I put on my skin and body as well as what I put in my mouth. I make my own face and body cream using 10 different herbs and coconut oil. Are you aware that the FDA does not even regulate the contents of cosmetics, lotions, body wash, face creams, etc.?

(FDA is only able to regulate cosmetics after products are released to the marketplace. Neither cosmetic products nor cosmetic ingredients are reviewed or approved by FDA before they are sold to the public.

But really, regardless of the above statement, it is a fact that there are numerous chemicals in your run of the mill, Walmart variety of soaps, shampoos, body wash, shaving cream, conditioners, face cream, and so on. Another topic that is relevant includes the ingredients in cleaning products. Oh my goodness, I’ve heard atrocious stories along that whole topic as well. But let me get back to today’s topic: home made tooth soap-powder.

As my title above says, yup, you guessed it! I have been making my own tooth soap-powder for quite awhile. It works great, and it’s very cheap!

I just made another batch yesterday, and thought that I should share this recipe with all you wonderful readers. If you don’t want to get the ingredients and go through the time required to make it (it really only takes about 10-15 minutes) then I request you, no, urge you to seriously consider trying Tooth Soap. It always feels like I just came from a real teeth cleaning. My teeth are smooth, squeaky, and healthy. (And my dentist can’t believe that I don’t use toothpaste! LOL!!) Plus, I’m keeping fluoride and other unwanted chemicals out of my system.

Here is the recipe for my Tooth Soap-Powder

1/2 bar of organic natural soap

(Get the soap at the Health Food store, or purchase it online. I have a few bars of pure olive oil soap that I bought from someone who had been to Jerusalem. You just want to be sure it is pure and made with very basic organic ingredients. Half of a bar makes enough soap to last for several months.)

6-8 calcium carbonate tablets, crushed to a powder or you can use dried and crushed egg shells, which have lots of calcium.

1/2 - 1 tsp sea salt

1 tsp aluminum-free baking soda

1/4 - 1/2 tsp pure Peppermint oil extract – this is not really ‘cheap’ but one bottle will last several years!!

Grate the soap with the fine grater side of your cheese grater. Finely chop the remaining pieces of soap that you can’t grate without taking off your fingers!

Grind up the calcium tablets with either a mortal and pistil, two spoons, or even a small coffee grinder works well. If using dried egg shell, a small coffee grinder works best.

Put the soap and calcium (or eggshell) powder in a small container, preferably glass, and stir well. Add the salt, baking soda, and peppermint extract. Stir and mix everything well.

You now have your own home made tooth soap-powder. You are probably wondering how to use it since it doesn’t spread on your toothbrush very well! Today’s generation probably never knew that before toothpaste, there was tooth powder. I remember seeing my grandfather using it, and it was probably some pretty decent tooth cleaning powder back then!

I simply pour a small amount into the palm of my hand, pick it up with my my tongue, and then chew it briefly with my front teeth until it becomes a paste. You don’t want the tooth soap-powder to get close to the back of your throat, so keep it near the front of your mouth. Then start brushing with a wet toothbrush. You’ll feel the difference once when you rinse out your mouth! Cool, and tingling!

You can adjust the amount of peppermint oil extract depending on how minty and ‘hot’ you like it. Peppermint oil extract is a powerful bacteria fighter and continues working long after you finished brushing.

WILLIAMSPORT - When Tanya Ortiz first adopted the vegan lifestyle, she was doing it just for herself.

But now, the Williamsport native is determined to bring this new way of eating and living to as many people as she can in her new role as a teacher.

“I teach people how to eat a raw food vegan diet,” Ortiz said.

Now living in a new home in Falling Waters, W.Va., she has a large kitchen complete with a dining area she can use as a classroom.

Certified as a raw food instructor since September, Ortiz studied with a doctor in Silver Spring, Md., who helped her when she first started on her journey.

Unhappy with how she looked when she went to pick out her wedding gown, Ortiz became a raw food vegan and lost 35 pounds between September 2006 and March 2007.

The weight loss was fantastic, but Ortiz said she was unprepared for the other benefits.

“I have lots of energy now, am no longer a borderline diabetic nor am I tired all the time,” Ortiz said.

She began learning a lot of recipes and quickly found some books were much more informative and realistic than others. When she decided to use all of the knowledge she had learned, Ortiz realized it now was a career as well as her passion.

She conducts group classes as well as one-on-one instruction.

“Most people starting out on the raw food vegan diet are used to the full feeling they got from eating,” Ortiz said. On the raw food vegan diet, that doesn’t happen and it takes some getting used to.

When she teaches, Ortiz stresses that she doesn’t expect everyone to make a complete changeover. Even she has left herself some wiggle room.

“I eat raw food all week and then on the weekend, I have what I want,” Ortiz said. That usually is steak and cheese sandwiches.

Her husband, Eliud Ortiz, is a New York native and 17 years her senior.

“I used to walk my German Shepherd near Halfway, where my mother lives,” Ortiz said. “We ran into Eliud, who was walking his Dalmatian.”

A Puerto Rican native, Eliud is retired from the U.S. Army and is a contractor in Afghanistan.

“His diet is smothered pork chops, rice and beans,” she said.

Ortiz’ 17-year-old daughter wants to be a doctor of natural medicine, which includes eating natural foods as a form of disease prevention.

“She is a vegetarian … she eats no meat,” Ortiz said.

Last summer, Ortiz’ story was featured in the July 30 issue of First for Women magazine, she said

On a recent afternoon, Ortiz pulled together an eggless egg salad, which when placed on a bed of lettuce became her dinner that night.

In a food processor, she blended tumeric, a half-cup of water, some lemon juice, two cloves of garlic, some sea salt, 1 1/2 cups of cashews or macadamia nuts, and scallions. To that mixture, she added diced red peppers and celery.

The finished product looked and smelled like eggs and closely resembled the taste and texture of deviled eggs.

That and other recipes that are tasty and filling become Ortiz’s favorites. Then there are her green smoothies, which are at the top of her hit parade in the mornings.

She mixes several fruits such as apples and bananas in the food processor, then adds in bunches of raw kale - a vegetable she doesn’t like to eat, but loves to drink in a smoothie.

The book “Green for Life” is her favorite in the raw food vegan world. Some others she tried earlier were far too complicated, so she abandoned them.

“When I first went raw, there was only one aisle in the store where I could shop - the produce aisle,” Ortiz said. Now, she knows that what she can’t get in the store, she can order on the Internet.

One Prayer

This may be a site dedicated to healthy living with raw foods. But what good is having our health, when the country is still in a senseless war, designed to keep people in fear, and yet make money for those people in power and control?

I believe in prayer, and have seen miracles from a simple prayer. I have seen people healed of their disease after being prayed for. The Bible says that God listens when we pray, and if we ALL pray for those we hate and are angry with, God can change their heart. We must  continue to always pray in faith!

This is in response to an article on PopularMechanics.com

I find it interesting that most folks look to science to cure the problem of old age, sickness and disease. Why? Because that’s what they get paid for, right?

Our society is so programmed to look for answers to our questions from the experts. From the organizations that are paid to do research. They are paid to report a certain criteria for their findings.

Let me get to the point. Sure there are creams, pills and potions to stop balding, reduce wrinkles, improve bone mass, etc. But there is no money to be made in telling people that if they stop eating the manufactured junk that our major food corporations, medical industries, and pharmaceutical industries want to stuff down our throats, literally! Think about it! If you want to live a LONG, productive and active life: listen to this: STOP EATING the junk food, stop eating animal products. Yes, you read that right!! Start eating all natural fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and sprouts. Reintroduce flavors like you never had before. Flavors that the food corporations are trying to copy, but only Nature can create.

Our bodies were designed to live off of raw, fresh fruits and vegetables, not beef and chicken pumped up with pesticides, hormones and antibiotics, not dairy products that contain all of the above, but also casein and other toxic substances. We were not meant to eat canned, or frozen instant dinners filled with preservatives, MSG, hydrogenated fat, and way more protein than the body can process. We cannot build health on packaged, processed boxes of food, chips, soda, pizza, sweets, etc.

There is a cure for old age, as well as for many debilitating diseases, chronic ailments, obesity, and the most common disease of all: fatigue. It is true. When people reverse their addictive habits to cooked food, processed snacks, soda, fast foods, animal products, etc., they find that the benefits of raw food, (no, not raw meat!) truly does change their life. The weight literally falls off, the bones and joints stop aching, headaches are gone, they experience more energy, sleep better, sex is better, thinking is clearer, and health issues begin to disappear. When they are sacrificing less enzymes to digest food, because raw food contains its own enzymes to process the food, life is extended (any food cooked over 118 degrees has lost all enzymes). Aging is reversed. When the body no longer has to fight the toxins that are consumed from animal products and all processed, manufactured food, it is able to stay pure, and clean from toxins. Toxins are not allowed to build up in the body, thus it stays healthy, longer.

This is just a short, very brief synopsis in response to the article on popularmechanics.com about aging. There is no money being made in telling people to change our diet to raw, natural, fresh fruits and vegetables. To learn new and awesome recipes to create beautiful raw food dishes. To use a high-speed blender, a dehydrator, and a food processor to create awesome dishes that are healthy and delicious, too. To introduce your mouth to new, and incredible flavors.

Here is a thought: Maybe the FDA, the food corporations, meat and dairy industries, the medical industries, and the pharmaceutical industries are more interested in keeping us minimally well. Sick enough to need the doctor on a regular basis (money for the doctors, right? On a raw food diet, you save money by not needing to see the doctor.)  sick enough to require medications for whatever your ailments are (again, money for the big drug companies), and sick enough to die at a reasonably early age so you don’t deplete the Social Security money, or live too long to crowd the planet…

Do you think the Cancer Society, and the Heart Association Society, and all the other gazillion ‘societies’ are really trying to find a cure for whatever they stand for? The CEOs are making too much money to sacrifice closing down their societies, because I read somewhere that the Cancer Society has in it’s bylaws that they will close down as soon as a cure is found. But wait, there is too much money to be made in looking for the cure, right? When in reality, there really already is a cure, but it’s kept secret. Because nobody is able to make money from something that was provided to humanity from God. Doctors won’t tell you to stop eating animal products and processed junk, because if you are CURED, they can’t make anymore money off of you. They are trained to prescribe a drug that ‘stops’ the issue temporarily, never cures it, so you’ll keep the pharma corporations in business, and you’ll be back to the doctor later when the symptom comes back. Meanwhile, your body is fighting off the toxins from the drugs you were prescribed, and are obediently taking. In most cases, a simple three day juice fast will cure whatever ails you.

So you do the research. Check out websites that endorse the raw food lifestyle. Look at the thousands of testimonies online of people who lost tons of weight, cured their diseases and sicknesses, and gained tremendous amounts of energy. One can live to be easily 120 years old or more on a pure, raw food diet. Just cut out the crap that the grocery stores and media want you to consume, and learn about a better way to eat and live.

Tooth Soap: The Ultimate in Mouth Care

The Ultimate in Mouth Care for Perfect Teeth and Gums for Life!

Weston A. Price and his wife, Florence, wrote a book titled: “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” sometime before 1939, where they reveal the results of their studies of communities in Switzerland, the Hebrides and tribes of Indians in Alaska. They discovered that these isolated people, whose diet consisted of only natural food, had about 1/15th the decay as people who ate refined carbohydrates.

Recently, a Canadian, Dean Bonlie, DDS, found the same phenomenon in Alaskan Indians and South Sea Islanders. He discovered that people eating a highly refined carbohydrate diet had badly decayed teeth, when they should have had perfect teeth. Yet, tribesmen and islanders who didn’t consume refined carbohydrate products did have perfect teeth. Interestingly, and what is really good news, Dr. Bonlie discovered that when the tribesmen changed their diet and dental habits, bad teeth and gums were completely reversed!

I believe the most research done on the dangers and myths about flouride, toothpaste, tooth decay and gum health has been done by Dr. Gerard F. Judd, Professor, Chemist and Researcher. His excellent book, “Good Teeth Birth to Death” reveals the false information that is being perpetrated on the American public and he builds a strong case for the use of tooth soap. 3 Reasons Why You Need to Stop Using Tooth Paste

Reason #1: Toothpaste Contains Fluoride.

Fluoride is a severe biological poison. Being intensely negative, it unlatches positive hydrogen bonds in enzymes and proteins. If you look at your tube of toothpaste, you will see a warning similar to this:

“Warning. Keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age. If more than [sic] used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.”

The warning on toothpaste tubes is due to lawsuits in which children were poisoned by fluoride-containing toothpaste. For instance, Keith Cantor, a little boy who lived in McMinnville, Oregon died in the dentist’s chair from ingesting ½ teaspoon of fluoride, and 3 kidney dialysis patients were killed in 1998 at the University of Chicago Medical School, when nurses used unpurified Chicago tap water for dialysis (ref 11).

To add to the problem, most states add at least 1 ppm of sodium fluoride or fluorosilic acid (radioactive toxic waste that contains fluoride) to the water supply, even though it has been proven that at least 113 medical side effects from cancer to headaches are caused by fluoride in the water.

Reason #2: Toothpaste Prevents Tooth Re-enamelization

Toothpaste contains viscous, sticky glycerin, the main ingredient in toothpaste, which coats the teeth and prevents re-enamelization from nutrients in the diet. Glycerin takes over 20 rinses to be removed and leaves your teeth coated! Skeptical? Try this simple test. Start with a clean sink and smear some of your toothpaste on the sink. Rinse it off and watch how the water beads up because of the sticky glycerin. You will have to keep rinsing and rinsing to remove it! Your teeth are similar to a porcelain sink, and your teeth are being coated every time you use toothpaste. Coated teeth cannot re-enamelize from nutrients in the diet!

Reason #3: Toothpaste Contains Silica

Silica, which is sand, can harm gums and abrades (wears away) tooth enamel.

How you care for your mouth determines the health of your teeth and gums.
